7 Feng Shui Tips for a Restful Night's Sleep
An ancient Chinese practice that transports you to dreamland.
How did you sleep last night?
I have no problem falling asleep, but I have noticed lately, that getting a full 8 hours in, ain’t happening.
I am pretty sure I know the culprit- EMF’s- Electro Magnetic Fields
For years I told my kids to keep the phone away from their heads, while they sleep and now, I am guilty of it.
YouTube has become my go-to resource for inner peace. I love finding guided meditations and exploring different spiritual perspectives when I crawl into bed.
But I know it’s a bad idea- not the inner peace stuff, but the electronic device so close to my cranium.
Research suggests that EMFs disrupt sleep by altering brainwaves linked to relaxation (alpha) and deep sleep (theta).
So, it is time I practice what I preach!
Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese practice, harmonizes and balances living space with the principles of nature. By implementing some practices, you can easily turn your bedroom into a serene sanctuary, guaranteeing a restful night’s sleep.
With a good night’s sleep, we can wake up feeling refreshed and renewed, even if it is a Monday!
Are you ready?
Let’s begin with the EMF issue.
1. Limit Electronic Distractions
Keep electronic devices like TVs, computers, and phones out of the bedroom, or at least far from the bed.
If you use your phone as an alarm clock, place it across the room. This not only limits EMF exposure but also helps you start your day without immediately diving into screen time.
2. Choose the Right Bed Placement
In Feng Shui, the bed is the most crucial piece of furniture. Its placement directly impacts your sleep quality and overall well-being. The ideal position is known as the "commanding position."
Your bed should be placed diagonally across from the door but not directly in line with it. This allows you to see the door without being in its direct path, which creates a sense of security and control.
3. Optimize Your Bedding
Your bed should feel inviting and comfortable. Invest in high-quality, natural fiber bedding. Avoid bright colors and opt for soothing, muted tones such as blues, greens, or pastels, which promote relaxation.
Additionally, ensure your mattress supports your body well and replace it if it’s more than seven years old or causing discomfort.
4. Declutter Your Space
Clutter disrupts the flow of positive energy, known as "Chi," and can lead to stress and anxiety. A clutter-free bedroom promotes a sense of calm and order, essential for restful sleep. Ensure that everything has its place and keep surfaces clear, especially under the bed.
If you are short on space, you can put soft linens and blankets underneath, but avoid clutter, as it blocks the flow of energy.
5. Enhance Air Quality
Keep your windows open during the day to let in fresh air and consider using air-purifying plants like aloe vera or snake plants. These not only improve air quality but also add a touch of nature to your room, enhancing the flow of Chi.
6. Incorporate Scents
Incorporate soothing scents such as lavender or chamomile to enhance relaxation. Traditional air fresheners are harmful to the lungs, so choose clean alternatives like pure essential oils that provide a safer and more natural aroma.
Organic Blue Chamomile is highly valued for its sweet, fruity aroma with subtle herbal undertones. In aromatherapy, it is often used to alleviate anxiety, and insomnia.
Another luxurious scent is the aroma of fresh flowers. Be sure to keep the water fresh and dispose of the flowers when they begin to wilt.

7. Balance the Elements
Feng Shui revolves around the balance of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Incorporating these elements in your bedroom can create a harmonious environment.
Use earthy colors like beige and soft yellows to bring in the earth element, introduce wooden furniture or plants to represent wood, and use soft metallic accents for metal.
However, avoid water elements like aquariums or water features as they can disturb the restful energy needed for sleep.
Feng Shui isn't just about appearances; it's a holistic approach to harmonious living. By applying some principles to your bedroom, you can enhance your overall wellness by getting quality sleep.
Give it a try and see how a few simple changes can transform your nights into a haven of sweet dreams.

Excellent post Thea! I sleep well and have always taken it seriously. I have my platform bed, nothing underneath, no headboard and 9 inches from the wall at my head. A dark sheet over the closed blinds. Cool, dark, quiet, NO TV, phones nor digital clock. No snooze button. Only my bed, small night table with a small lamp with incandescent low watt bulb, Ganesha- remover of obstacles and some cotton head bands if I need an eye mask. In my bed around 8-9 cat Hamlet sleeps at the foot of my bed. Alarm at 5:30. do one or two meditations, then out of bed before 6.
